Story seeds are full of potential, which makes them precious. When we find one, we must look after it. It's our responsibility to curate it and cultivate it.

MEET THE EDITOR
Hi there!
I'm an author, wife, mama, and acquisitions editor for a small local press. I love championing authors on their writing journey. As an author, I understand how important an editor is in the success of your story.
My goal as your editor is to shine the light on your manuscript so that it grows into a beautiful story. Just like a seed needs the right care to grow, a story needs the right tools to flourish. I will use my experience working in multiple genres to help you cultivate your story.
GENRES AND GUIDELINES
I specialize in stories with strong faith themes. I especially enjoy speculative and contemporary genres.
I will not edit manuscripts with the following content:
-
Erotica
-
LGBTQ+ content
-
Excessive swearing
-
Excessive gore/violence

The Seedling Edit
Manuscript Assessment
Before a story can grow, it’s important that it has a solid start. In the seedling edit, I’ll read through your manuscript and provide you with a big picture assessment of your story’s structure as well as an evaluation of characters, setting, and grammar.
The Seedling Edit will:
-
Identify and evaluate the five major story arc scenes to determine if the plot basics are working
-
Assess your characters and setting for overall strength and impact
-
Point out any major grammatical flaws
This edit is best if you have completed a first draft with no to minor feedback and need direction on how to best move forward.
You will receive a 5-10 page editorial letter detailing what is working and what needs improvement in your current draft.
An optional 30-minute follow-up call is included to brainstorm ideas on how to move your story forward.
The Seedling Edit is $.03 per word.
The Root Edit
Developmental Edit
Once your story has a solid structure, it’s time to get into the deep roots that make a story flourish. In the root edit, I will perform a scene-by-scene analysis of your manuscript to dig out any major components that need to be fixed.
The Root Edit will:
-
Evaluate all major scene elements
-
Scene openings
-
Scene anchoring
-
Scene purpose/goal
-
Scene tension and conflict
-
Scene setting uses
-
Scene dialogue
-
Scene impact on the main character
-
Scene closings
-
-
Asses your protagonist and make sure they're a character your readers will root for
-
Evaluate the strength of your antagonist and side characters
-
Determine if your setting is working best for each scene and the overall story
The Root Edit includes detailed inline comments along with an editorial letter that breaks down each scene element and provides actionable advice to strengthen your story.
This edit is best once you’ve completed an overview of your manuscript to make sure the basic structure is solid and want to get a deeper understanding of each scene to make every element count.
An optional 30-minute follow-up call is included in The Root Edit.
The Root Edit is priced at $0.04 per word.
The Bloom Edit
Assessment + Developmental Edit
In the bloom edit, you will get the most extensive manuscript overview.
This is a two-step process. I will begin with an evaluation of the major story arc scenes then return the manuscript so you can complete any needed edits on your story arc.
Once this is completed, we will schedule a scene-by-scene analysis.
This is essentially a combination of both The Seedling Edit and The Root Edit.
The Bloom Edit cost will depend on each individual project. As word counts will change between the two steps, it is best to contact me directly to get an idea of cost for your specific project.
An optional 30-minute follow-up call is included after each step in this process. (A total of one hour)
The Bloom Edit is best for manuscripts that are ready for an in-depth transformation.
