Dedicated to the fallen and their families on September 11th
They say he died a hero. They say “Man! What a guy!”, But all I see is his empty chair And I still don’t understand why.
They say she was a soldier, But to me, she was just my mom And when I long to be near her, I only remember that she’s gone.
So many empty places In homes and hearts that day, When on the eleventh of September The blue skies turned to gray.
What can we do with empty spaces? Void, but full of grief. Marred by gritty, tear-stained faces Bordered in disbelief.
Fill them up with hope and kindness.
Reach out and lend a hand. Teach the children of tomorrow, To remember their brave stand.
Don’t forget those lovely faces, Or the broken, bleeding hearts.
Don’t just leave the empty spaces To decay and fall apart.
Can you fill an empty space now? Share a memory. Help a friend. Say a prayer. Lift up your country. Fill the empty spaces in.
